London-duo Everyone You Know unleash their first single of 2021 ‘When The Sun Comes Up’
After garnering over 52 million streams worldwide and embarking on a 15 date sold-out UK tour, brothers Rhys Kirby-Cox and Harvey Kirby, otherwise known as the London duo Everyone You Know, have gained masses of attention in rapid timing from fans to BBC Introducing and the likes of Radio 1 DJs Annie Mac and Jack Saunders.
Dropping their first single of 2021, ‘When The Sun Comes Up’ is a self-professed “after-party anthem”, a brief sentimental glimpse into the afterparty culture of young people across the UK before the inevitable lockdown situation loomed over us all. As the chorus chimes in with “We don’t leave until the sun comes up,”, it ignites reminiscent feelings in which many of us can find a sense of nostalgic relatability. Even the simplest of things such as “lads asking for a lighter just so they can conversate,” sparks memories from times past of chewing off the ear of somebody you’ve just met in a dimly-lit, overcrowded kitchen, the forgotten about cigarette burning away in hand.
Accompanied by a self-directed music video aptly dancing about in their kitchen with their sister, the steady bass line makes this track a natural head-bopper. Everyone You Know’s debut mixtape is set for release in May. Hopefully one day soon after, we can pull this tune out at our own afterparties and head bop our way into the blurry haze of the early morning.
