Have you ever had someone smile at you in the club when you heard them talk behind your back five minutes before? Have you ever felt everyone look at you when you walk into a room and give you dirty looks? Then this song was written just for you.
‘Passive Aggressive’, released on Friday, is the latest single in a string of releases from GIRLI, London’s pink-haired pop-punk princess. Following break-up anthem ‘Letter to My Ex’ in November and self-deprecating bop ‘Has Been’ in October, GIRLI leaves nobody out on ‘Passive Aggressive’. The song itself sounds like it could have been included on Miley Cyrus’ latest album ‘Plastic Hearts’, with explosive guitar riffs and a delicate yet enduring beat at the beginning. “When my best friend told my other best friend the other best friend don’t wanna be friends no more” are just a handful of lyrics from the release, which I’m sure everybody can relate to.
‘Passive Aggressive’ marks GIRLI’s third solo release under label All Points/Believe, after leaving Universal imprint PMR Records in mid-2019. Hopefully, we’ll be hearing a lot more from GIRLI this year, and if this single is anything to go by then we are definitely in for a treat.
