Brimming with teenage angst and Merseyside-talent, Honey Motel have released their debut single ‘Weekends’ this month; and it’s a banger.
With staunchy guitar-riffs reminiscent of the early days of You Me At Six, and raspy vocals from frontman Matthew Walker, Honey Motel are entering the final days of 2020 with a punch, and a knock-out, at that. Try and imagine a cross-over between Arctic Monkeys and Stranger Things, and you’ll be on the right track; Honey Motel pack synths and systematic rebellion into every line.
Born of fire, brimstone, and I’m presuming a lot of lager, ‘Weekends’ is an arena-ready anthem that percolates gradually through the first, before the amped-up chorus cuts like a knife. “Just take it off and let me see” they coo, a perfect blend of cockiness and romance oozing from the lads, as they provide social commentary on the current landscape of dating and navigating the exe-complex world of relationships.
Eccentric to their loveable core, Honey Motel also consists of Sam Meredith (lead-guitarist), Jack Hughes (bassman), & Paul ‘Pablo’ Robinson (drummer), and the band make quite the mark with ‘Weekends’. It’ll have you yearning for that repeat button as much as it does a bottle of whiskey; it’s impossible not to feel comforted.
