Introducing Palm Rose

Palm Rose are a 4 piece hailing from my hometown of Swindon, recently they have released their EP and I went to the launch gig. They had a unique door policy of pay what you can which was admirable, no excuses why you wouldn’t go!

Their EP named Daydreams is comprised of 5 songs –

Daydream (in Bb)

Where Are We Now?

Move Slowly

Tender Crush/Heartless Love

Daydream (in C)

My particular favourite is Where Are We Now?, its soft, catchy and makes me want to dance. Its melodic, almost euphoric with a great bass beat through out, with well written lyrics layered over the top.

Watching the boys live, they definitely drew a crowd with their an atmospheric tones and synth-y sound. The songs translate so well from record to live, something I feel a lot of bands really struggle with sometimes but these guys made it seem effortless, you couldn’t really help but enjoy yourself.

Adam, Palm Rose’s singer has a voice that reminds me of White Lies or Editors, that lovely dark lower tone. His vocals are backed by a dreamy, synth pop sound, it sounds strange to describe music as light but thats how I felt listening to it, transports you into another mind focusing on just the music. To completely juxtapose this, thoughtful lyrics covering meaningful more serious themes sing out nicely over the top, you wont want to just dance, it’ll make you feel something too. The kind of sound you can imagine being at a music festival dancing in a tent with the music just surrounding you. Highly highly recommend you check these guys out.
